Releasing a "Positive" Card

How do you interpret a "positive" card when it comes up in a reading as what you are letting go of?

The first place we have to begin with this question is by unpacking our concept of positive or negative cards.

There truly is no such thing. If we are asking this question, there is still a little part of us that believes that one Tarot card is more useful and helpful than another, and that’s not true. All Tarot cards bring medicine, helpful nourishment for our soul’s growth. Sometimes that medicine is bitter and spicy, sometimes it is sweet. Our experience and maturity as readers will develop and blossom as we learn to appreciate the full range of medicine that the deck has to offer.

The second thing to remember is that we have to look past what others say about the Tarot, and come home to our own conclusions with the cards.

Do we experience The Sun card in conjunction with joy and happiness, or is it more complex than that? Do we resonate with The Empress, or do we actually feel contraction whenever that card comes up? Is a card like 10 of Swords actually super empowering for you? Start noticing. The deeper layer of divorcing ourselves from the label of positive/negative cards is in actually checking in and tracking how the cards make us feel throughout the day, or week, or month that we pull them.

When we get any card in the position of what we are letting go of, it simply means that we have absorbed all the good stuff that it has to offer, all the medicine of that card, and now we are layering something else in — whatever is coming up in the next cycle. It can help to think of it like the changing of the seasons, moving from winter to spring, or from summer to fall. If we are letting go of Ten of Cups, and moving into Three of Swords, all it means is that we are transitioning from an invitation to find gratitude and joy in this moment, to taking care of ourselves and our hearts through our big feelings and triggers. We cannot do that work without the layering of these cards. It just is, nothing negative, nothing positive. All here to assist us in our growth.
